Introduction |
The euglenozoa
are a well defined group of protists. The major subsets are the euglenids
and kinetoplastids. Kinetoplastids include some parasites which have had and
still have a very significant impact on human health and economy. The autotrophic
euglenids are important primary producers in many freshwater ecosystems. Heterotrophic
euglenids are so common that they are principal determinants of the character
of microbial communities in many sediments. The diplonemids are common consumers
in water-column.
This version of emphasizes the biology of the euglenids.
