X:ID keys are matrix keys. They are a kind of controlled browse function whereby your choice of characters will narrow your choice of targets. X:ID keys were designed to help in identification of organisms. We have adapted them here to help find examples of different forms of mitochondria.
INSTRUCTIONS
When you open the key, one panel will provide you with an array of the different characteristics of mitochondria. If you 'Open all characters' you will see the available character states as well as the characters.
Select those that you want to see, and this will narrow the options (right hand side). You can then click on the
button, and this will take you to a page with an image.
Depending on which style sheet you choose, tools will be available in a drop down menu or as a series of icons across the top of the screen.
When navigating the key, you are using the X:ID player. There is also a builder that will allow you to create or modify files. The key information is saved in the LIF format.
X:ID is from the
stable.
