Chlamydomonas (clam-ee-doe-moan-ass), a solitary volvocid (flagellated green algal cell). Cell surrounded by a cellulosic wall. With plastid containing chlorophyll B giving the bright green colour, two similar flagella emerge from the anterior of the cell. Differential interference contrast. This image taken by Michele Bahr and David Patterson of material collected from the water column and the margins of Lake Toolik (Alaska, USA) in August, 2001. Image copyright: Michele Bahr and D. J.
