 portrait
Portrait of what we think is Baileya, a testate filose amoeba. The smooth, broadly ellipsoid test is colorless, transparent and strongly flattened. No adherent particles were noted and scales are not visible by light microscopy. Test flexibility was not observed in this species. Ingested algae are visible. From freshwater pond near Boise, Idaho. bright field illumination. This image was taken by William Bourland. He now uses a Zeiss Axioskop 2 with Spot Insight and Spot Flex CCD cameras (Diagnostic Instruments). Image copyright: William Bourland, image used under license to MBL (micro*scope).
