Dinophysis acuminata is 38.0-58.0 µm long, 30.0-35.0 µm deep Phototrophic cell with reddish chloroplasts. Laterally flattened oval cell with small epitheca, well developed cingular lists and medium sized sulcal wing, deepest in the middle of the cell. Rounded posterior end, often with small antapical teeth. Variable in shape. Areolated thecal plates.
