 in debris
Unidentified testate amoeba. The test is egg shaped with a single polar aperture (bottom). The wall of the test is organic (it is brown), has an irregular texture, and small pieces of detritus stick to the wall. This organism is in a piece of detritus. It clearly eats algae, and several Synechococcus cells are evident in food vacuoles. Differential interference contrast. Material from Nymph Creek, thermal sites in Yellowstone National Park, photograph by Kathy Sheehan and David Patterson. Images were taken of samples from thermal sites in Yellowstone National Park at the Thermal Biology Institute of Montana State University, August 2001. Image copyright: D. J. Patterson, image used under license to MBL (micro*scope).
