Lateral view of the rare colorless heterotrophic flagellate, Paramastix conifera (Skuja, 1948). The cell is broadly pyriform to spherical with an anterior papilla surrounded by a wreath of flagella (seen in this image). There is a prominent spherical nucleus (seen here) and posterior contractile vacuole. Collected from a freshwater agricultural irrigation ditch near McCall, Idaho May 2005.Phase contrast.
