 Ventral infraciliature
Ventral infraciliature of Cyrtolophosis mucicola (Stokes,1885). The paraoral membrane is seen to the viewer's right and the adoral membranelles to the left.A short "oblique kinety" is present between the anterior end of the paraoral membrane and the most anterior adoral membranelle. The sparse (~10) slightly spiralled somatic kineties are visible.Collected from a freshwater pond near Boise, Idaho.June 2005). Stained by the silver carbonate technique (see Foissner, W. Europ. J. | Description of Cyrtolophosis mucicola: Ciliate usually in mucous tube, cell about 18-40 x 9-15 microns, usually 20-30 x 9-11 microns, very flexible and about 30 % of length contractile. Body ellipsoidal to ovoid, unflattened, distinctly excavated by oral apparatus in anterior third. Individuals swimming for longer periods usually become fusiform, those being contracted or degenerating become stouter. Macronucleus near mid-body, globular.
