 Flagellum missing
Trachelomonas varians (DEFLANDRE,1926). Simple spherical lorica with internal tubular collar. Numerous small discoid peripherally distributed chloroplasts. The flagellum is three to four times as long as the cell but has broken off in this individual.The similar species, T. volvocina (EHRENBERG,1833) has two large chloroplasts.Collected from a eutrophic freshwater pond near Boise, Idaho.
