| Description of Uronema marinum: Scuticociliate, 30-50 micrometres long. Body elongate, oval, colorless, and may be slightly bent toward the ventral face. With a flat, unciliated anterior pole, or head plate. Below this bare spot, uniformly coated with long, delicate cilia, denser at the front end. Single caudal cilium. Body sides appear wavy. Oral aperture on one side, just anterior of the equator, with undulating membrane constantly moving. Macronucleus spherical, contractile vacuole in posterior. Movements hasty, jumping to and fro. Eats bacteria. Found in fresh and salt water, as well as moss. |
