| Description of Urocentrum turbo: Peniculine ciliate, body unevenly pyriform, widest anteriorly, constricted centrally, narrower and posteriorly, the ventral surface somewhat flattened. Caudal appendage nearly equalling one-half the body in length, flattened and flexible, distally adhesive. Two ciliary girdles, the anterior one encircling the body at a short distance only from the frontal border, the posterior one subcentral. Nucleus and contractile vacuole posteriorly situated, the former band-like, curved, transversely placed, the latter lying on the axis of the cell and with radiating collecting canals. Cytoplasm transparent, colourless or pale yellow, enclosing anteriorly numerous spherical globules. Length around 50-90 microns. |
