|Description of Epistylis digitalis: Colonial peritrich ciliates, body 60-100 micrometres in length, height of colony about 1.6 millimeters. Cell body elongate-cyindrical, as a long funnel, 2-3 times as long as broad. Elongate-pyriform when contracted, with an anterior nipple-like projection. Pellicle transversally striated. On thick, annulated, profusely branching stalks; secondary branches tend to be shorter than primary stalks. Macronucleus long and ribbon-like. Common and widespread in fresh water, frequently ectocommensal on cyclops.
