Wittrockiella (wit-rock-ee-ell-a) paradoxa, a filamentous green alga which periodically releases biflagellated cells, usually associated with reproduction. Several empty cells with their cellulosic walls are visible in this micrograph, the walls modified with the points of release of the flagellates.
