| Description of Urostyla grandis: Urostylid ciliate, 300-400 micrometres long. Body shape an elongate ellipsoid; sometimes ovoid or oblong. Flexible. Rows of marginal cirri covering ventral surface on either side of midventral complex. 10-20 transverse cirri, in a row diagonal to midline, higher on the left. Macronucleus in 100 or more parts. Contractile vacuole on left, behind the peristome. A voracious feeder, consuming rotifers, diatoms, flagellate algae. Fresh water.
