| Description of Aspidisca turrita: Small and ovoid hypotich ciliate, but convex on the right, up to 30 microns long. The outline is smooth but the dorsal surface has a long backwardly curving thorn. These are seven frontoventral cirri in the 'lynceus' arrangement and there are five transverse. Two of these five are separated by a spike. The posterior adoral zone of membranelles is composed of 10-15 membranelles, and the anterior ciliary organelle has 3-4 cilia. |
