| Description of Cyclidium citrullus: Scuticociliate, 25-30 microns long. The cells have 14 somatic kineties, one or two macronuclei, and one micronucleus. The contractile vacuole pore opens at the end of the somatic kinety 2. The oral structures are characterized by the arrangement of polykinetid 1 and polykinetid 2 in a large field, with practically no segregation between the two structures. The basal bodies in these two polykinetids lie in parallel rows. The cells move by means of short jumps: five or six short jumps, and then stops, then short jumps again, and stops, then short jumps again, and stops, then short jumps again, and stops, and so on. |
