Amastigomonas griebenis
From the collection
Drawings of flagellates
| Description of Amastigomonas griebenis: Cells are ovate to elliptical, about 5.5 - 7 microns long, dorso-ventrally flattened and flexible but not amoeboid. The short anterior flagellum emerges subapically near the anterior end of the cell and beats actively up and down. The acronematic posterior flagellum emerges just below the anterior flagellum, lies in a groove and protrudes behind the cell. Cytoplasmic strands may be drawn out from the posterior end of the cell. The nucleus is located behind the apex of the cell. The cells glide fast on the substrate and when moving the short anterior flagellum is active. |
