Oscillosignum
From the collection
Drawings of amoebae
| Description of Oscillosignum: Locomotive amoebae are slow moving, flattened, with paired subpseudopodia extending from the hyaline edge. These frequently have web-like connections at their bases. Moving cells often extend a long, clear pseudopodium which is active and waving before it attaches to the substratum and is filled by advancing granular endoplasm. Clear distinction between the anterior ectoplasm and the granular mass of the cell. At the posterior, a uroid may be formed, but this is temporary. Single nucleus with a central nucleolus. Cytoplasm frequently contains small crystals. Type species: O. proboscidium Bovee, 1953. |
