Ovalopodium

From the collection Drawings of amoebae

Description of Ovalopodium: Cell broadly ovoid with a central, or post-central, hump and spine-like posterior uroidal filaments. Anterior and lateral margins smooth or rippled. Hyaline margin, without subpseudopodia, encircles the cell. Cytoplasm granular with numerous clear vesicles and a distinct nucleus with a central nucleolus. Sawyer (1980) considers Ovalopodium to be in the family Cochliopodiidae, however, it differs from other members in that it lacks scales or a cuticle and does not form cysts. Marine, single species, O. carrikeri Sawyer 1980, from oyster holding trays.
