American Type Culture Collection
| Description of Gephyramoeba: Flattened amoeba, fan-shaped or irregular in outline. Often fan-shaped highly branched, not anastomosing, with a long narrow tail in some cells; not plasmodial and not anastomosing. Generally slow moving but occasionally amoebae are eruptive when they extend a new pseudopodium. Usually with a single nucleus, but some cells may have several. Typically found in soils but can be isolated from shallow freshwater sediments. Locomotive form 30 to 300 µm. The cysts are spherical or ovoid single-walled. Single species described, G. delicatula Goodey, 1914, from soil. |
