Radiolaria

Colonial radiolarian several millimetres in size, living organism encountered during a blue-water dive in the Sargasso Sea off Bermuda by Peter Countway. The bright spots are capsules of the component organisms. This is an example of one of the four types of large amoebae which is common in the marine water column.   This is one of a collection of images assembled by Dave Caron (University of Southern California, Los Angeles).
