| Description of Freia ampulla: Folliculinid ciliate, lorica sea-green, when young more transparent, more or less ovate or flask-shaped, attached laterally when the neck bent upwards. Neck short in young individuals, but becoming much prolonged with age and usually ornamented with either horizontal or spirally ascending annulations or with longitudinal flutings. Margin of aperture even, circular. Organisms similar in colour to the lorica. Peristomial wings are of unequal lengths, tend to narrow, and are from three to six times as long as broad. Length of body of lorica 66-400 microns, neck of lorica varying in length from 25-100% the length of the body portion. |
