Description of Salpingoeca desaedeleeri: Cell globular to oval, partly filling the lorica. The lorica has two peculiarities, (1) a curiously squat appearance due to its comparatively great breadth, (2) the curves of the body portion appear distinctly angular or facetted. Lorica neck short, with somewhat large everted lip. Peduncle short. Collar and flagellum long. Nucleus normal. Contractile vacuole: not observed. Height of body: 6 microns. Length of lorica neck: 2.5 microns. Extreme width of lorica: 8 microns. Diameter at lorica mouth: 4 microns. Length of cell (contracted): 5 microns.Width of cell: 4 microns.
