Description of Acanthocorbis:
Cells solitary, lorica, vase or conical shaped, constructed of rod-shaped costal strips and with anterior projections; numerous longitudinal costae (6-17) and one or more transverse costae; some species with simple pedicel; division tectiform; marine, brackish water; similar genera - Spiraloecion Marchant & Perrin has two conspicuously different types of costal strips, as opposed to one in Acanthocorbis.
