Description of Awerintzewia:
Dark violet colour, but aperture oval and pseudostomal border internally thickened. Size: 135 to 180 µm long. Pseudostome: 40 by 12 µm. Test: oval, with irregular, embedded siliceous particles. Nucleus: ovular. Feeding: herbivore. Habitat: sphagnum, aquatic vegetation but also forest soils. Type species: Awerintzewia cyclostoma (Penard, 1902).
