Description of Bicosoeca mignotii: Bicosoeca cells with a lorica chamber measuring 5-7 x l0-15 microns; cell: 3-4x 5-7 microns; pedicel-length: 5-10 microns. The lorica chamber is elongate ovoid, transparent and delicate. The anterior part of the lorica is divided into two opposing pointed beak-like structures. This part is elastic. It may collapse when the cell is retracted to the bottom of the lorica, and widens when the cell protrudes through the opening for feeding. The lorica is stalked and attached to the substrate by a small disc. The cell is spherical to ovoid with an anterior, small peristomial lip.
