Description of Tropidoscyphus:
Sphenomonadine euglenids, gliding cells, two unequal, emergent flagella, similar to Notosolenus but with pronounced helical keels, no ingestion apparatus visible by light-microscopy; recorded from both freshwater and marine habitats, type species: T. octocostatus Stein, 1859.
