Protozoan biomonitors in China

There has been a considerable tradition in China of using protozoa and protozoan communities to evaluate water quality. Modern Biomonitoring Techniques Using Freshwater Microbiota edited by Shen Yunfen, Zhang Zongshe and colleagues, and published by China Architecture and Building Press in 1990 is the primary compendium of information on the microbiota. We here include illustrations of almost 800 species used in biomonitoring. Image from cover of book. Image copyright: China Architecture and Building Press, used under license to MBL (micro*scope).
