Amphitheater Springs Area in Yellowstone National Park
|
|
The Amphitheater Springs area is located along the Mammoth to Norris Road just south of the Beaver Lake Picnic Area. The chloride-rich, hot groundwater in this area contains large amounts of sulfur. Hydrogen sulfide (rotten egg smell) is oxidised when it comes in contact with air, creating sulfur rich features with very low pH values - such as Lemonade Springs.
