Cyanidium at Yellowstone
|
|
Cyanidium, a red algae, is one of the most heat tolerant of all eukaryotes. It is bright green and forms flocculent mats in relatively warm areas, such as the upper reaches of Nymph Creek. Recent research suggests that the organism present in Yellowstone may not be Cyanidium, but is a close relative of it. This picture was taken by D. J. Patterson.
