Marine benthic dinoflagellates - NW Australia

The micro-algae and protists of north western Australia have not been studied to any great extent. The marine dinoflagellates included here were found in samples taken from sandy and muddy sediments at Cable Beach, Town Beach and Roebuck Bay (and adjacent sites) near Broome. This survey was carried out by Shauna Murray, Mona Hoppenrath and Jacob Larsen in 2003. This survey was supported by the Australian Biological Resources Study. Image of sunset by D. J. Patterson.
