Microbes in Black Lake

Black Lake is located in the dry eastern foothills of the Sierra Nevada. It is near some hotspring outlets. At the time of sampling the surface was covered with a skin of crystalline deposits - a good indicator of the salt content of the water. Image by David J Patterson Image copyright: D. J.
