| UNDULATING MEMBRANE
|
Part of the buccal ciliature of oligohymenophoran and some polyhymenophoran ciliates. A line to cilia to the left of the mouth used to intercept particles being carried in currents of water. The particles are segregated and passed to the cytostome for inclusion in food vacuoles. Some structures of parasitic flagellates are also referred to as undulating membranes.
