 portrait
Baileya (bay-lee-a) - tentative identification. This cell was found in moss at the edge of a freshwater lake. The cytoplasm has gone, but this image shows that the lorica is organic and relatively flexible. It is also flat. The aperture is to the bottom of the picture. Phase contrast. This image taken by Michele Bahr and David Patterson of material collected from the water column and the margins of Lake Toolik (Alaska, USA) in August, 2001. Image copyright: Michele Bahr and D. J. Patterson, used under license to MBL (micro*scope).
