 Multi-layer image
An important feature of determination are filamentous appendages on the uroid (see inset). Scale bar indicates 50 µm. Sample from the pond Hegne Moor situated in the vicinity of Lake Constance. The image was built up using several photomicrographic frames with manual stacking technique. Images were taken using Zeiss Universal with Olympus C7070 CCD camera. Limnic and marine Protists of Northern Germany and the Alps
| Description of Rhizamoeba: Limax-like in rapid motion, often eruptive. Anterior with a hyaline zone, posterior usually with conspicuous trailing filaments. Less active forms are flattened, sometimes with peripheral filaments. Most uninucleate, but some species multinucleate. Nucleus difficult to observe in living cells. Marine, freshwater and soil species; some form cysts. Type species: R. polyura Page, 1972. |
