Euglenids at Yellowstone

Euglenids are common and widespread protists and a few species are acidophilic and tolerant of slightly elebated temperatures. The most familiar euglenid is Euglena, a genus that has chloroplasts. Many euglenids have no chloroplasts. This picture was taken by D. J. Patterson. Image copyright: Globe Pequot Press, used under license to MBL (micro*scope).
