Amoebae at Yellowstone

Amoebae are protozoa that change shape by extending temporary pseudopodia (false feet) from the surface of the cell. The pseudopodia are used formovement or to capture food. Most amoebae feed on smaller protozoa, bacteria, and particulate material in streambeds and on slimy surfaces. This picture was taken by D. J. Patterson.
