Hawley Bog Project

The goal of this collaborative project is to survey the naked and testate amoebae in Hawley Bog in Ashfield, Massachusetts. Samples were collected from the bog and areas around the bog which included moss, creeks, and other small bodies of water nearby. Amoebae were filtered and observed back at the lab. We used Nikon and Olympus microscopes for brightfield, phase contrast, HMC, and DIC microscopy. Other samples were imaged on a FEI Quanta 450 scanning electron microscope (SEM). This project is the work of Angela Oliverio, Gabriela Kubik, Daniel Lahr, Laura Katz, and others in the Katz Lab at Smith College. This image was taken by Daniel Lahr. Image copyright holders: Laura Katz and Daniel Lahr.
