Atlantic white cedar (Chamaecyparis thyoides) wetlands are environments found along the western edge of the Atlantic Ocean from Maine to Florida and Mississippi, never more than 150 miles from the coast. They are characterized by acid, low nutrient fresh waters and with little light penetration. Much of the macrobiota is not found elsewhere. Image taken by Mindy Richlen.
